There are many complexities to consider preparing for a global sporting event – not the least being people movement considerations and transport needs. The movement of spectators, athletes and officials to/from and within a major event site is often challenged with competing priorities including cost, safety and security, and ‘business as usual’ travel and transport network demands.
This session will demonstrate how to build advocacy and support from event organisers and host city authorities, while navigating the complex scope, impacts and key crowd planning principles required for major events, while referencing a broadly applicable case study, the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Using innovative mobile network data to better understand visitor attendance venue and live-site precinct trends, effective data extrapolation is paramount for planning major event wayfinding, pedestrian-vehicle interactions and activations.
This highly engaging and timely session will be particularly relevant for those involved in the planning, design and operational delivery leading up to and during the Brisbane 2032 Games.
Please note: Attendees must be present in each session for a minimum of 30 minutes in order to be eligible to receive the certificate and claim CPD points.
