Catch up on the Creating a Circular Ecosystem for Wood Waste webinar with GHD’s Dr Sarah King, and Yvette Barrs from Illawarra Shoalhaven Joint Organisation (ISJO).
Including the release of Wood Cycle Connect, an interactive tool that assists users in comprehending market options for wood waste that align with circular economy framework and to encourage diversion of wood materials from landfill.
About the webinar:
For organic waste, the challenge of wood is often eclipsed by the spotlight on food however, around 60% of wood waste in Australia is sent to landfill. This is inconsistent with national goals to achieve 80% average recovery rate and halve the amount of organic waste to landfill by 2030. Research by the ISJO indicates a mismatch between the demand for wood waste and its available supply, highlighting a disconnect in the supply chain.
ISJO, supported by a grant from NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) have engaged GHD to develop a circular ecosystem for wood waste. This webinar presents the results of that project. The project developed a material flow analysis for wood in NSW, delivered two circular matchmaking labs and developed a tool – Wood Cycle Connect, to show circular pathways for wood.
During delivery of this project, ISJO and GHD connected with many organisations also tackling the wood waste issue in Australia. We are pleased to have guest speakers from ReDirect (NSW), Optimal Group (VIC) and The University of the Sunshine Coast (QLD) joining us to present their projects to divert wood waste from landfill.
